sachets

To make a sachet that 's almost too pretty to hide in a drawer or closet, knit up a decorative little tube, tuck some sweet-smelling lavender inside, and secure it in place with ribbon ties. I've provided a trio of stitch patterns, but feel free to experiment with your own designs. The sachets knit up quickly and use only a small amount of yarn, so before you know it, you'll have one for every drawer in the house. If you run out of drawers, add an extra length of ribbon to form a loop at one end and hang the sachets from hangers or hoolts in your closet.

Notes

The silk yarn shown is fairly fragile and will sometimes leave a gap, or "ladder," as you change from one double-poinied needle to the next. To avoid ladders, work a few extra stitches onto each needle every now and ihen to shift the position of the spaces between the needles.

You may find it helpful to use 4" (10 cm) sock needles to make working in the round on a small number of siitches more manageable.

PI IPfPî l/pc I was so inspired by the knitted cupcakes on the cover ^ur UCllXUO qJ lhe 2004 edition of the Anthropologie holiday catalog that I decided to design my own version. After sifting through my stash of smooth yarns for the "papers," novelty yarns for the "icing," and buttons for the decorations, I came up with an assortment of knitted confections that would do a pastry chef proud. Although each cupcake knits up quickly, be forewarned— tlicy tend to multiply.
